Sinema - The Northumberland Massacre

Has anyone come across this book? It has just been released and from what I gather it's loosely based on real events that happened in a small rural community in northern England around the turn of the Century.

After reading an extract the book has been set in a modern setting and is about what appears to be an ordinary man who decides to go on a serial killer rampage in a small Northumberland village called Haydon.

Well, I decided to go out and purchase a copy of this novel, despite the author being relatively unknown.

Whether it is based on real events or not is unclear, but regardless, it is well worth a read.

I rarely bother to write reviews of novels, but Sinema by Rod Glenn utterly took my breath away. His writing style is easy and fluid with vivid descriptions and characters that literally leap off the page at you. It's violent and disturbing with the darkest humour laced throughout. For film fans out there it is also full of film references throughout. The anti hero is both likeable and horrific at the same time leaving you as the reader almost apologetic and certainly uncomfortable at getting so close to him. This is an edge of the seat read that will have you gasping for air as it rockets through to a devastating conclusion.

I can't recommend this book enough - 5/5.
