Police arrest stepfather of toddler found abandoned in bathroom



CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) -- The stepfather of a 2-year-old girl found bruised and abandoned inside a locked apartment bathroom was arrested.

Dionicio Mendietta the Third was arrested yesterday. He faces a charge of child abandonment.

The toddler was found in an apartment bathroom October 7th after neighbors reported she was crying and screaming. Authorities say she appeared dirty and bruised and may have been left alone for as many as two days.

Text messages between the girl's mother and stepfather show Mendietta knew of the abuse and helped lock up the child.

The family has been the subject of 2 previous child welfare investigations. Both were in jail overnight.

I will never understand how women (and men) can allow some boyfriend to abuse their children. It happens so often and it makes me so mad! I hope they BOTH have to go to prison for this. I hope the child isn't placed back in the care of her mother EVER!

What is wrong with these people? My daughter is a single parent, And I would never let her have men correcting her children... I would go to jail, my babies are 3 and 1 and I would not let someone get by with this!

2 yrs old, the poor wee mite. When such neglect and cruelty is apparent, the child should be taken away. There are many, many prospective parents out there, who can't have a child for some reason, and are desperate to have a child to love and nurture. I would hate to see this one given back to the parents, only to become another statistic in the future.

So many people in the world have children they don't want. So what do they do? Abuse and/or kill their children. I just don't understand it. :flamemad:

you know if you don't want children birth control....this is heartbreaking truely these stories kill me..I lost my niece a month ago to a tragic accident she was 1yrs old my brother and my sister in law would do anything to have Abby and then you have these SOB who would do anything to there children to just get rid of them...scumbags I hope they rot in jail...

Sad :( Makes you wonder about some people. They just had a similar case up here where the mother put her child in the attic. Husband came back from Iraq only to find out that his wife may have killed the child that he never got to see born. :shrug:

Thats so sad :( ...we had a father here about 8yrs ago who killed his two kids and the mother came home and found them in garabage bags with there picture's on top of them..the two kids went to the daycare I worked at I started there after it happened its just sad because nothing was ever done to have these taken out of this home they still would be alive the father was a coke head and the mother left them alone with him all the time the little boy would come into the daycare with bruises on him and the daycare would call children services and they did nothing they said they more evidence WTF!
