A member of another forum has filmed the walk from the entrance to the Tapas bar to the McCann's apartment (34 paces).

It's really interesting footage. It also shows the back entrance and the walls which 1) surround the car park and 2) surround the building itself.

I'm not allowed to link to the other forum (CL rules) but if you do a Google search for "Mirror McCann forum" and open the thread called "I'm back from Praia da Luz WITH VIDEO FOOTAGE!", you'll get them.

Those are indeed very interesting. A couple of things come to my mind.

1. Cars are parked along the street right outside the apartment window. They provide a kind of shield. A person could have gone out the window or handed Maddy out the window to someone else without being seen doing it. But there are several entrance/exit points, and all are fairly shielded, IMO.

2. Did you notice that the woman was walking along filming and mumbling to herself. She encountered several people and nobody seemed to pay any attention to her or what she was doing. It is like that at resorts. People come and go. Nobody really knows that many other people who are at the resort. Everyone is intent on what they are doing, not on watching or questioning what others are doing. It is an ideal environment to snatch a child.

3. There was a considerable amount of street noise, the passing of cars, etc. on the video, and I assume the noise would be greater in the early evening or night, which people were out and about instead of at the beach.

4. The accessibility of the apartment from the street is stunning to me. It is literally right on the street. Just a narrow sidewalk separates it from the cars and travelers on the street. People walking on the sidewalk are right outside the window of the apartment.
