Funeral services for Hanna Mack are scheduled for today in Corsicana. The 6-year-old girl was found hanged in her family's garage earlier this week.
The boyfriend of Dana Mack, Hanna's mother, was identified as a primary suspect in the little girl's death by the Navarro County sheriff's office on Thursday.

Kevin Wayne Anders, 32, was being held in the Navarro County Jail on a charge of possession of child pornography, the sheriff's office said. He was arrested late Wednesday and has not been charged in the murder of Hanna Marie Mack. Bail was set at $100,000. Does anyone else find it a little odd she was found sleeping on the couch at 1am? Why wasn't she put to bed? Or carried to her bed when found at 1 am? Especially if it was a school night? Also does she wake herself up for school? Her mother stated she was found missing when she was supposed t be getting ready for school, not she was found missing when I went to go wake her UP for school. Maybe I'm different, I just find it odd a 6 year old seems to be treated like a 16 year old. :confused:

I think you could be right about some of those details (well spotted!!!), or else the article was just badly worded. It seemed that the girls family were devistated and she was much loved. Hopefully the truth will be told.

I just cant get my head around all these children being murdered, and by adults who had a relationship with them. It is so horrific to imagine a trusted adult turning on the one he is ment to be looking after.

I agree with Sharon that it could have been the wording. Re: sleeping on the couch -- doesn't say if the family was economically deprived but it is possible that the couch was the little girl's bed as there may have been only one bedroom and being the mom had a boyfriend...... just a thought.

Neighbor Charged With Murder Of Hanna Mack

19-Year-Old Arrested In Navarro County Girl's Murder

(CBS News) NAVARRO COUNTY Officials have arrested a neighbor and charged him with capital murder in the death earlier this month of a Navarro County girl.

Officials arrested Shawn Earl Arender, 19, and charged him with capital murder in the Hanna Mack murder, authorities said at a news conference Friday morning.

Navarro County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Mike Cox said Arender lived less than a mile from the Mack's rural home about 65 miles south of Dallas. He was already in jail on unrelated burglary and drug possession charges.

Cox said DNA evidence linked Arender to the crime scene. His bond is set at $2.5 million.

According to an affidavit when Arender was questioned Wednesday he, "would not give a statement, but put his head on the table and cried." The document also states that a couple of days before being questioned about Hanna's death, Arender cut himself with a piece of glass and was taken to the hospital "because he was depressed."

CBS 11 talked to Anders uncle who said Shawn was a 'trouble maker', but he could have never imagined his nephew would be accused of 'something like this'.

The 6-year-old girl was found hanging in the family garage on Sept. 10. An autopsy later revealed that the girl had also been sexually assaulted.

Dana Mack's live-in boyfriend Kevin Wayne Anders was arrested two days after the little girl's body was found. He was charged with possession of child pornography. Bond was set at $100,000 and he remains jailed.

At the time of his arrest Anders was considered the primary suspect in Hanna's death, and as of Friday, he hadn' t been ruled out as a suspect.

Reached at home Friday, Michael Runion, Hanna's grandfather, said the family felt "a whole lot better" knowing that Mr. Anders wasn't responsible for Hanna's death.
"I think it's a huge sense of relief," Mr. Runion said. "Although [Mr. Anders] has some other charges to deal with ... at least it isn't that charge."
Mr. Runion said Mr. Arender is not a relative or family friend.
"We don't know him," Mr. Runion said. "I don't know what went on at that house, but I know I've never seen the guy."
Although arrest records list a Corsicana address for Mr. Arender, the affidavit said he lived in a mobile home near Purdon, just east of Navarro Mills Lake.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Mike Cox said Mr. Arender lived a little less than a mile from the Macks' two-story house.
Sheriff Cotten said Friday that Hanna's family members had told investigators "they thought they had seen [Mr. Arender] walking down the road once or twice but they didn't know him."
Mr. Arender is described in arrest records as an unemployed construction worker.
On Monday, while in jail, he cut himself with glass and had to be treated at a Corsicana hospital, according to the affidavit. It quotes Mr. Arender as saying he was depressed.
According to an online Texas convictions database, in the past two years, Mr. Arender was convicted in Navarro County of a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief, a felony charge of evidence tampering and two counts of burglary.
Last October, after the burglary convictions, his five-year probation sentence for evidence tampering was revoked. He was ordered to go to prison for three years. It was not clear Friday why he wasn't still in prison.
Mr. Arender also had a juvenile criminal record, one serious enough to land him in Texas Youth Commission custody. An official close to the investigation said Mr. Arender was released four years ago from the agency's Corsicana Residential Treatment Center – the TYC facility reserved for youthful offenders with serious mental health problems.
The official also indicated Mr. Arender was admitted to a state mental hospital sometime after he left TYC custody.
A spokesman for TYC declined to comment, saying only that "state law forbids us from disclosing any information about youth in our custody."
Phone numbers listed for Mr. Arender's mother and brother in Corsicana had been disconnected.
The arrest affidavit said Mr. Arender caused "the death of Hanna Mack by asphyxiation by a manner and means unknown" while in the act of sexually assaulting her.
It said his DNA, kept in a state Department of Criminal Justice database, was a "possible match" with a biological sample taken from Hanna's shirt. It didn't specify if the sample was hair or fluid.
Chief Deputy Cox issued a news release calling the comparison a "positive match."
On Thursday afternoon, Navarro County District Judge Sam Bournias signed an order permitting deputies to take a blood sample from Mr. Arender for further tests. It was unclear Friday when lab tests of the suspect's blood sample would be completed.
Judge Bournias also let deputies search Mr. Arender's trailer home for a necklace and pendant. The affidavit quoted Dana Mack as saying Hanna "always wore" the jewelry, which was missing when her body was discovered. Deputies also were to search for several household items Ms. Mack said were missing. An employee at the Navarro Mills Café and General Store, where Hanna's mother works, said that Ms. Mack was not there and that "this isn't a good day to talk to her."

4. Since child porn was found in the possession of the "boyfriend", I suspect the victim was abused by him prior to her murder, and may have actually been involved in it. Investigators may find a communication link between the suspect and the "boyfriend via computer, cell phone, mail, etc. How else would the suspect have known the victim well enough to find her?

The arrested murderer deserves the death penalty if convicted. If the boyfriend took money from the suspect to provide the victim for him, he, too deserves the death penalty. (I have no evidence to base my suspicion that the boyfriend was involved. It's just a gut feeling.) I personally believe that pedophiles are incapable of rehabilitation, and deserve death. I know others don't feel that way, but until we wake up and stop believing the prevaricators of warm and fuzzy treatment programs for these guys, it will never stop.

I really do want to comment on Hannah. This little girl has the face of my Hayhay and all of our daughters. This makes me sick, sad, pi**ed off, fearful and confused and makes me want to beat my head aginst a wall, just to get the thought out of my mind.

I heard about Hannah the day they found her body and I mapped it, from my house to hers and it is less than 12 miles.......from my house where my four year old princess plays in her back yard and sleeps at night and I know that it could have been my baby or anyone elses, two parent household or not. Mine is a two parent household and it could have been one of my children. If someone really wants to get to them they can. Im not naive I know that they are every where but my little girl just started Pre-K and I have to leave her in the morning and hope that that kiss good bye is not the last one. Because of child molesters and murders like the winner that snuffed out Hannahs sweet innocent life. When is our legal system going to stop this? When are we going to start giving the death penalty to the people that deserve it? How many more of our children have to suffer or die at the hands of the people that our justice system go out of their way to protect (their rights). What about Hannahs right to be safe in her home or her right to breath and not be reduced to someTHING for some sick ass freak to get off on.????? Maybe some of these people are really sick in the head and can't be fixed, well, if I had a dog that was sick with rabies and he would not get better and he had already hurt someone, I would have to have him put down, know matter how I felt about it. I couldn't agree more Wombat. I have 5 nieces all under the age of 6. Two of them are now taking the bus. Luckily the bus stop is directly in front of the house. However, bus stops aren't even where the majority of these child cases are committed. The thing that kills me is Hannah was safe in her house at 1 am, she was seen sleeping on her couch. What happened to Hannah in between 1 am and when her body was found? I can't help but think the mother's boyfriend had something to do with this. was he in the house at the time Hannah was taken? He would have had more access to her than the scumbag 19 year old did. How did that scab get a hold of her? Child porn in the home? BIG SIGN! I was hoping someone would key on the "single parent" connection. The reason I mentioned it is not because children of functional, happy, two parent homes are not just as vulnerable. It is because I have seen how difficult it is for a young mother to raise children alone. She is overwhelmed with providing the basics: food, shelter, clothing, nurturing. All the while, she has her own physical and emotional needs that are being neglected. Many times, especially in the case of young mothers, they are desperate to succeed in a relationship and make mistakes in judgment that turn out to be tragic. These pedophiles are not stupid people. They understand the "needs", and they con their way into the lives of decent women only to take advantage. The only way we can protect ourselves is through education and vicarious experience. All parents, whether single or double, need to learn about sexual perversion. They need to be wary of their neighbors, their Sunday school teachers, coaches, police officers,...everyone! Does this sound like paranoia? It isn't. It's caution, because paranoia is only paranoia if it isn't the truth. The truth is that there are too many predators lurking in our world to not pay attention.....one hundred percent of the time. It's just easier, all things being equal, for a pedophile to worm his way into a single parent home. My heart is broken for Hanna, but her suffering is over. The death pen. is to easy for these monsters but if they could just be done away with, they would not suck our tax dollars away and add insult to injury by eating up the money that should be going to our schools by setting in prison and working out and eating all the time. My heart is broken for Hanna, but her suffering is over. Now, her mother will go through the living hell of blaming herself for everything from a failed relationship with Hanna's father, to the circumstances leading up to Hanna's torture, rape, and murder. Pray for Mom, lest she become another victim.

I am so brutely aware of men looking at my 4 year old daughter, that I feel I have to guard her 24/7. And I am even more aware that its the people I cant see, the ones that have gone under my radar, that are more frightening......I dont think you realise it when you have become a `target`. I trust nobody (except my immediate family) because I know how sick people are and you dont get a second chance.

I used to be scared when I thought my daughter looked provocative in certain outfits, now I know that peds go for any child. Infact they prefer child- like outfits and dont care about adult type clothes to make the child attractive to them. So as a parent there is no winning, you have to be paranoid and not let people into your life if there are any red flags....

The problem is that you sometimes dont realise that what you thought was weird or didnt feel right was a `red flag` warning. Sometimes you dont realise till its too late.

I know that if i got divorsed, it would be a cold day in hell that I let a new man into my childrens lives while they are little. I have heard of the molestation thing happening in all levels of social circles, wealth not being a factor, more to do with single Mum being targeted!!!

Sorry for the rant, this story is too sad for words, I am too terrified to imagine the girls horror after she was woken from her sleep.....and the Mother who now will never wake up from her nighmare.

I hope this guy and the boyfriend get at least one night in gp where I believe they will get more than I could imagine and deserve every bit of it.

It is sad that we need to be in a constant "ready" condition. Ready to react, to protect, to run, to fight, or even to kill if necessary to survive. It sounds barbaric, and I know that humanity should have moved past this 'jungle' mentality, but we haven't. All one need do is listen to the 6 o'clock news.
