I didn't know him, but I'm pretty sure that I had a close encounter with the serial killer Ted Bunday. (hope I spelled his name right) My mom, brother and I went to the Grand Canyon to hike back around the time I graduated high school, about 1979. The Bright Angel Lodge had an open fireplace and I brought a hanger and marshmellow to roast. There was a drunk Indian in there and about three other men, all of us were sitting on benches around the fire, INSIDE the actual chimney, it was huge and wonderful and I felt all grown up staying up listening to adult converesation eating my treats. This man just kind of appeared next to me, blondish with glasses, I did NOT like him but he would not go away. At some point, he talked me into going with him out into the parking lot to shine my flashlight in his car window so he could get something. It was one of those hatchback stationwagons and he wanted me to shine the flashlight in the passenger window behind the driver's seat. But he kept complaining that I was not getting close enough. I got spooked and ran back into the hotel, in a side hallway, he ran after me and tried to talk me into going in his room, which we then passed and he opened the door and tried to push me in. I got really really scared and ran and dropped my marshmellows, and was kind of screaming in my throat when I entered the lobby again where the fireplace is. Everybody looked at me, but I pretended nothing had happened and went back to the camper for the night.

Years later, I listened to a radio broadcase where Dr. Dobson (?) interviewing Bunday before his execution. Then I got on the Internet and looked up some web sites and read a witness describe a similar close call in a parking lot very similar to mine - and I also saw that many of his victims looked a lot like ME and that he had some fixation on that look, though he would take blonds too.

Things like this seem to happen to me and mine every so often - its the cost of venturing out into the world.

This sounds REALLY similar to the one who's tried a few times in the last months with the 'I know a killer but i can't do anything.." You know the schtick.

That couldn't have been Ted Bundy. he was arrested in Colorado in 1975, and charged with Kidnapping. He did escape for six days during that trial, but was recaptured. He was tried also for murder, then he escaped again in 1977, when he travelled Chicago, Michigan and made his was to Florida, where he committed 3 more murders and was captured in February, 1978. After that, he was incarcerated until his execution in 1989.

Hi. Ann Rule has already been there, done that and a whole lot better. Her book is called The Killer Beside Me. She actually did know Bundy and worked beside him as a crisis counsellor.

I would think if it's a publicized case, and a well written book, most of us here would have already heard about it and read the book also. Thanks anyway! ;)
