Not sure where to post this, so I selected this thread.
The Beginning of the End.
Over at CTV boards, it is being said the thirty minute updates we once enjoyed of the daily court news has ceased. Samantha Guthrie, Michael Bryant, etc., will no longer keep us abreast of the day's legal happenings. CTV has lost NG, CC, and now two correspondents I, for one, greatly enjoyed.
Sad day. Michael and Jean C. did a fantastic job keeping us abreast of the news in the Bahamas as it was happening. Looks like are only source now, is Art Harris.
No offense chambord, but where you been?
They still work there, they just won't be doing NEWS breaks. I think you don't realize this is not the beginning of the end... it is over! Court tv has been going going .. gone for the most part. Won't be long, a year or two, and I believe it will be gone. They have already said trials will go through the internet "extra".
I think you should expect it to disappear in time.
I saw it coming a long time ago myself. Look over time. It is not the show it started out to be. Those days have been gone long ago. Then phase two from a sell out began. But.....
They cast aside all respect for justice and the honored position they worked to obtain (cameras in the courts) and greatly abused the privilege. They became an 'entertainment' show. Even a lynch mob presence, trying to spoon feed views and impact cases in a harmful way. Commercializing "justice" wasn't a great success either, thank God!
What had the potential and history at one time to be an educator and battle corruption of secrecy, allowing the world to see trials for themselves.. quickly got twisted. In that, they lost that honor. Judges caught on for the most part and begin denying cameras again. As 'free' biased commentary grew, styled in line with gossip tabloids the 'court' in CourtTV was set aside and became a small part of their telecast.
Court TV is no more. They will be known as truTV.. entertainment really.
This total revamping has been in the making a long long time. Name change, layoffs, fading out, program changes. New target audiance! Speeding cars and some phony psychic garbage. It will be a NEW format all together.
We see some of it now. Court time reduced greatly. Daytime commentator formats eliminated. Not that I feel this was a lose as some do. I found them to be predictable and way to much biased agenda. In place you get some pretty cheesy crap with lots of reruns plugged in and fast cars.

GREAT Post SPAFS !!! I agree with you totally. I still haven't forgiven CTV for ending "Catherine Crier Live" !! I have been watching live feed of the Philip Spector trial, and haven't really watched CTV recently. I did turn it on this afternoon .... I believe around 3:30 p.m., and they were showing something other than the usual "Closing Arguments". I know Nancy Grace is no longer there, but isn't CTV still showing things like "The Best Defense" .... "Banfield & Ford" .... Closing Arguments??
You can probably ask me the same question you asked Cham .... where have I been ??? lol

And here we are, the viewers and fans of the original concept of CTV, drawn together to discuss trials because we, the posters, are interested in trials. We take that common interest and bring it here to this forum to comment, discuss, debate and share thoughts and opinions.
The saddest part of all of this is that it seems to me that we, the collective viewers/posters were tossed aside in favor of some concept of another sort of viewer. If the "powers that be" would have actually visited the forums from time to time and realized that their viewers consisted of so many intelligent people with a variety of backgrounds and one common interest, they would have realized that WE are truly the market that they should have catered to. Sadly, they missed the mark completely.
I will miss having a channel that specialized in the law and current trials. Most of us will have to depend on "snippets" from the other major network. Many of us will not be watching the replacement channel. It isn't for us.
We will, however, continue to follow trial coverage from other sources, and discuss those trials on other message boards. Just let us know where. We'll be there.
IMO, as always
Excellant post Rachel, as usual!!

I didn't realize this had been moved from the original posting spot. Freshwater surprised me, right on top of your game (glad I nailed it in that sense w/o reprimand lol).
For questions on scheduling there is still a daily program schedule posted.

When tuning in for the PS trial, I found it is gone earlier in the afternoon by about an hour IIRC.
I noticed marked changes after the last big take over to Turner. Changing colors, logos, contracts not renewed etc. The phase out was planned I am sure. My guess is somewhere on a CEO desk long ago sat the chop list and target dates. Instead of swinging a big ax, taking all at once, there have been slow erosion points as people and programs disappear. Nancy's transfer to CNN (Turner/Warner connection) was early on so it isn't like she disappeared, just a new chair is all.
You should see Star Jones return August 20. Now before you moan, some may not know Star was with CTV in the good ol days. (1991) commentator on the Kennedy rape trial if I remember correctly. http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20014248,00.html
I don't know what to expect as Star's hour is 'being executive-produced by two-time Emmy® winner Gail Steinberg (Donahue, The Ricki Lake Show)'.
To me, Donahue and Lake were world's apart. Lake's show was too kooky for my taste. Personally, without the experience of being able to view and follow actual trials, I see little reason to tune in here anymore than the long list of already available TH's on any other program or network.
Me, I'm going where our great Michel Byrant goes :D
We are part of the end. Soon to be packed away in memory banks with Superbowl games, poodle skirts or Barbie dolls.. and Harry Potter of course.

I'm just wondering if there has been any word yet in regards to the timing of any board closings. I hope that we can be informed if and when.

I will ABSOLUTELY be here to tell you what's goin' on. As it stands now. CL Discussion is OK. As CTV becomes TruTV and the on-line properties are reshaped - I will keep everyone updates
Thank you! Your efforts are deeply appreciated.

 I just now saw this thread - I hope nothing happens to the discussions here.
Mysteri, I see freshwater posted above you and said he/she'd let us know whats going on. Lots of valuable information will be lost if this happens, but I believe (hope and pray) freshwater or someone will be looking out for us.

For the second time today...check your pm's.I agree too. I am especially upset because, in January, we were told to drop Dish TV and get DirecTv. I almost did that. I ordered DirecTv on 2 separate occasions. the only reason I don't have DirecTv is because they were so busy, I could not get an installation date.
CTV blamed Dish and Dish blamed CTV.
I watched CTV all day long from Open Court through Catherine Crier. Now, I am turned-off and will only watch when I especially want to see what is happening on a trial-but I will not watch it every day any more.
I feel as though I've been "dumped"

CL has your back for sure. AS of now CL Discussion will continue. Our part of the TruTV nextwork will be assessed in Nov. So until then no part of CL disucssion will be gone. (I don't think it will be gone in the long run... lots of people at Turner working for CL's interests)
Thanks FW for keeping us in the loop. Its a pleasure to have open communication and you address our concerns rather than keep it a dark secret. Is there anything we as members of CL do to convince TruTV we are a valuable force to consider for their marketing strategy?
