I was born and raised in Columbus Ga and I was a young child in the Wynnton district during the Stocking Stranglings. I remember them pretty well, as one happened two doors up from the house I grew up in while we were living there. I've read the main page story with great interest, as there is fairly little out there about Gary (he didn't rate as a Bundy or Ridgeway) and I'm interested in his crimes as they affected my hometown.
Does anyone out there have any links as to what has happened to him? Once the trial was over the paper in town pretty much dropped him and no one back home discussed it much after Gary went to prison in 1985. Thanks in advance.

You may not know it, but Carlton Gary and the Stocking Stranglings are still big news in Columbus. There have been 3 books written about the crimes ... first was "True Facts Surrounding The Wynnton Stocking Strangler" by T.W. Moody, Jr. (written prior to Gary's arrest). Then came "Murder In The Peach State" by Bruce L. Jordan. Chapter 7 of this excellent book concerns the case, the arrest, and numerous anecdotes. Recently, "The Big Eddy Club" is someone's wishful thinking. It completely ignores the overwhelming evidence against Gary in a transparent attempt to see him come off Death Row.
I have said for years that the complete book about the case has yet to be written. I have heard that Billy Wynn at the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer started a well-researched book, but that his work was stolen and that he then gave up the attempt. (He is an excellent writer, by the way.) The Ledger-Enquirer has complete records of all public information about the case.
If you ever talk to the local cops or jailers who had contact with Carlton Gary, you would get a better idea of how he did it. Carlton Gary is the ultimate con man.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported today (8-23-07) that DNA has connected Carlton Gary with yet another killing. This makes 9 murdered women now, in New York and Georgia. The latest link was to a 1975 murder in Syracuse, NY, in which Carlton Gary was not even a known suspect. He needs to be executed.
