San Ramon Man Held In Christmas Eve Murder Of Wife

(BCN) SAN RAMON Contra Costa County sheriff's deputies have arrested the husband of a 33-year-old woman who was murdered in her San Ramon home on Christmas Eve, a death coroner's investigators concluded was the result of strangulation.

According to Contra Costa County Sheriff's Lt. Steve Warne, Renee Farnsworth was strangled to death just after 7:30 p.m. on Sunday inside the home she shared with her husband in the 2200 of Promontory Circle.

Police arrested Thomas Farnsworth, her 37-year-old husband, after arriving at the home on a medical emergency call. A coroner's investigation determined that she died from strangulation and the sheriff's department is holding Thomas Farnsworth on suspicion of murder.

The Contra Costa County district attorney's office has yet to file formal charges.

According to Warne, investigators have a good idea of what happened leading up to the alleged murder but they cannot release details, as they don't want to compromise an ongoing investigation.

The couple did not have any kids, Warne said.

San Ramon murder suspect angry over wife's affair
Contra Costa Times

February 01, 2007

A San Ramon man waiting to stand trial for the murder of his wife had recently learned she was having an extramarital affair, according to a transcript of a Contra Costa County grand jury hearing earlier this month.

Thomas Farnsworth, 37, was arrested after he called 911 to report a medical emergency on Christmas Eve at the couple's San Ramon apartment on Promontory Circle. An autopsy found 33-year-old Renee Farnsworth had been strangled.

After hearing testimony from witnesses, the grand jury decided Jan. 12 to send the case to trial.

The man who had the alleged affair with Farnsworth's wife told the grand jury Thomas Farnsworth became upset after learning of the indiscretion and forced her to call him to break off the relationship.

He said Farnsworth also made her burn her clothes from their previous date. Lastly, he said Farnsworth had threatened to expose the affair and other allegations from her past to embarrass the two.

However, the man testified he kept in contact with Renee Farnsworth even after her husband found out and on the day she was killed, she 'abruptly' ended a phone call with him.
