A new scheme aimed at protecting victims of domestic violence has been unveiled by the UK Government.
The "sanctuary scheme" will provide money to create a room in which Women can be secure within their own homes and be able to call the police.
Each home will be fitted with good security, alarms, CCTV etc. One room in the house will be reinforced with high security doors. A mobile phone will also be provided and the house will be flagged, so if the alarm is tripped or a 999 call is made, it is treated as a priority.
The reason for this is if your violent ex partner finds you, and is breaking your front door in, or smashing your windows, you can retreat to the safe room (think panic room), call the police and know that the police will arrive before he can get to you.
This service will only be provided in suitable cases and only if the Woman requests it. 74 million pounds (140 million dollars) has been set aside for the project.
Do you think it is a good idea?
Should the US introduce a similar scheme?
