I came across this website quite by accident. As I was watching the news on CNN about the "lucky" victim Natascha Kampusch who escaped alive and well after 8 years of captivity, I searched the web for the latest news about her. The links about similar kidnappings brought me to Crimelibrary.
Reading about the other crimes, some really monstrous and bizarre makes me wonder if those things really did happen and if people really did those things. Of course, they did but it is so remote and unreal to me.
I wonder what are the chances of an average normal real person in the street actually getting abducted, restrained, tortured, mutilated and murdered. I hope the chances are low.

I am a French female member and I am extremely interested by profilers. A few years ago I saw an incredible documentary about an Australian female profiler who appeared to be a bit psychic as well. Unfortunately I can't remember her name. Later on, in a documentary about a French man who met several serial killers in the states, following his wife's murder, the name of the Australian profiler was mentioned because apparently she had broken down owing to her particular type of work. I have always been wondering about the mental stress of the profilers.
Can anyone help me with the name of that profiler? does anyone know what became of her? and if there is a possibility to contact her. Thanking you in advance and happy new year to all.

:( You may be thinking of Athena Starwoman. She was an Australian who wrote 'Star Columns' in many International magazines and Newspapers.

If you Google 'Athena Starwoman' you may find more. I don't believe she was ever a Psychic Profiler, she could have been. She married an American motivational speaker. Athena passed away with Cancer about 1 year or so ago.

Perhaps there is someone else who meets your description. Hope that helps.

Hi, all: This is my introduction to the group and, at the same time, an appeal for a little help.

I'm a mystery novelist, writing under the pen name of C. C. Canby ("Masks of Murder). In writing my second novel, tentatively titled "Second Coming," and I have a question I can't seem to get an answer to in any of my forensic books in my library. In the novel, a dead man is found floating in a lake. The body has been there for several hours. Inside his pocket, the police find a very soaked diagram of the house (on legal paper) in which two murders and a burglary have just occurred. My question is, is it possible to lift fingerprints from a very wet (soaked) piece of legal paper, or would the water have destroyed the fingerprints (if any, of course)?

This being my first time to post to this forum, I'm unaware of the expertise that may be existing here. But I'm hoping someone might be able to help.

Glad to meet you all and thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi There,
Am pleased to be here, though as with most things, I have a motive

I am here to talk to people about Mary Bell, who in 1968 was convicted at the age of 11-years-old for the murder of two younger boys.

The reason is that I am producing a new play at The Finborough Theatre (London) in February 2007 for 3 weeks, that explores two moments in Mary's life. In fact, if you like, it book ends her time on prision.

The first is the trail, and the other is when she went on the run with a fellow inmate from an open prision to Blackpool for the weekend!

The play "Fanny and Faggot" has been written by Jack Thorne, who has recently written for the TV series "Shameless". The title of the play has been taken from the names both Mary and Norma gave themselves, and they left on the notes and in the school rooms.

I would love to hear from anyone who has thoughts on the case, her imprisionment, her trail as an adult, her release in the 1980s and the eventual pursuit by the media.

I am looking for debate and to connect with people who want to talk and discuss.

Many Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Regards
Honest Joe

I haven't read any books about Mary but I did read something in the Library sometime back. Here is the link.

http://www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/famous/bell/index_1.html

Not sure what you are looking for but while reading the story it made me wonder what things this little girl had seen prior to the killings.

Interesting story for sure!!

:( The child murderer who herself was a child is frightening in the extreme. Fortunately, she was caught before she could go on an ever evolving murderous rampage.

Mary was a pretty child, she looked like such an angel. How looks can be deceiving.

Given that past behaviour is a predictor of future behaviour, the world has not yet seen the last of 'dear Mary'. For the Judge to allow her to be released with total anonymity puts the rest of us at risk. There is a known Psychopath who has previously murdered and unrepentant walking the streets. None of us, including the Police are privy to her identity or whereabouts.

She may have taken up residency in any other Country, where she is free to strike again, again and, again. The Judge's decision to apply total anonymity has put another Psychopath out on the street to do it again. Anonymous in every way. She may even have moved Countries.

When Mary strikes again, not if, the Judge who made the order must be brought to account and laws altered to never allow such an order as this to be applied again. Sadly, in the mean time lives may be taken for the laws to be adequately adjusted.

I've tried to find out more about Mary's escape from "prison" but didn't find much on the web.

What I did find out is that Mary had talked to a journalist and recieved monies from this journalist. The victims families recieved nothing.

Mary and her now 18 year old daughter are able to live their lives as if nothing happened.

Very interesting story from all angles.

Hi There,
Am pleased to be here, though as with most things, I have a motive

Regards
Honest Joe

Hi Honest Joe,

As Walton mentioned there wasn't alot about Mary's escape that appears to have been published. Can you enlighten us further on that, please?

Thanks:seeya:

My name is Kathy and I've been reading this forum for awhile and would like to learn to participate and post. I love Court TV and true crime books, especially anything by Ann Rule. I love her emphasis on the psychological aspects of why some people do the things they do. If anyone can recommend true crime writers as fascinating as her books, I'd love some suggestions.

Nice to meet everyone! :)

Hi everyone!
I'm new here, too. So much reading to do, it's gonna take me awhile to get caught up! Great site!

I was wondering. I am from Connecticut, now living in Cannes, France. A very close family friend was recently killed in CT, along with her 9 year old daughter. Is it at all possible for me to follow the case thru this site? I read the CT Post online every day and am in touch with the prosecutor (I actually know him from a few years back when my brother-in-law was killed), but I don't like to call him too often, and it's sometimes difficult to reach him with 6 hour time difference. The paper doesn't provide much info.
(If by now you've guessed I lived in Bridgeport, you would be correct- murder capital of CT.)
Any info any of you could provide would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I have been a huge Crime Libary fan for several years. I am particularly interested in The West Memphis Three, Katherine Knight (what on earth makes people like her tick?) and Ted Bundy. I read the CTV forums religiously, but very rarely post. I am happy to have found the CL forum- hopefully I will have the opportunity to post more frequently.

I read as much true crime as I can- Ann Rule is great! I also read as much about Australian Crime as I can (I'm in Australia).

I am looking forward to reading everyone's posts!

Cheers!

Hello everyone, I am new to this but am very interested in participating in your discussions entered.

I have a question that I would like to ask. I am currently a criminal justice student and am in a crime theory class. I am having problems with associating a specific crime theory to domestic violence and murder for hire cases. What I am looking for is what theory or theories would best fit these two types of crimes. The case involves a woman who was killed by a man that was hired to kill her, by a former lover. Both of the men are previous felons and are from the Bronx, N.Y. The police had been called to the couple's homes on different occassions for disturbances, but no arrests were made. Any help with this would be fantastic. I look forward to the discussions. Thanks

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this site. A friend of mine told me about it so I thought I would check it out. I've always been interested in true crime stories and I think it's because my dad was a sargeant on homicide for Detroit when I was growing up. I would go through his files and it was always so fascinating. The story I am reading now is called "Internal Combusion" about Nancy Seaman, a 4th grade teacher who killed her husband, Robert with a hatchet. They lived in Farmington Hills MI, so it's close to home. In the book it says that Court TV is at her trial but yet when I try to bring it up to get more recent info, it doesn't come up. Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone help?? Thanks for your help!!

I couldn't find anything in the Library but I did find this: http://www.courttv.com/press/dunne_071703.html

and this: http://markgribben.com/?p=263

Not sure if this Mark Gribben is the same person who wrote the story Mountain Meadows Massacre at the Library here or not. But it is surely worth the read.

Here is that link: http://www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/mass/mtn_meadows/ Christopher Cain did a movie about this event. It is called September Dawn due out May 4th. And starring in it is Jon Voight.

Hope this helps.

I wanted to introduce myself. I just finished writing four papers on crime theories. I was so confused I should have just looked on the boards for clarification. Anyhow, I posted somewhere else to introduce myself but I don't remember where. I am a criminal justice major. I am married to a probation officer (30 years on the job). I grew up seeing the other side of the criminal justice system. My family involvement in crime would always have the criminal justice system as a major part in my life. It still is today, but on a different perspective. I look forward to the discussions. I think the first crime novel I read was The Boston Strangler. I must have been in 4th grade. Al Capone, Bugsy Siegel, Lucky Luciano would become my first obsessions. James Cagney, Dead End Kids, boy, that just brought back forgotten memories. See you later and welcome to everyone.:patriot:

I need to write a paper about crime and punishment.
I love Ann Rule too, I think I have every one of her books. And some old crime novels from my parents. I need to look for them. The books have black in white photos on the cover.

I've been reading the posts in this forum for a little while.
Finally I had the courage to sign up and participate in the discussions. I am leaning heavily towards Mr. Simpson's being innocent of the crime. In fact, the more I read about the case, the more convinced I become the true killers have never been even looked for.
Nevertheless, there are some excellent points made that could raise doubt about Mr. Simpson's innocence.
May I add that the personal attacks and bickering in some possts do interrupt the flow of the threads and make it difficult to keep focused on the subject under discussion. :seeya:

Nice to meet you, I think. I have been involved in LE in one way or another for 15 years and have a deep seated interest in Criminal Minds. I am hoping to do some research on here and hopefully find some knowledgable folks concerning a I think Serial Killer that was in business in approx. 1982. I don't know where on the board to ask the questions that I have and hopefully someone can give me some guidance. Thank you in advance.

Welcome, Bella. :seeya:

Try the "Historical Serial Killers and Mass Murderers" forum. I'll pop in and see if I can't help you out. I've been a true crime buff for years, have a huge collection of books and might just know the case you're wanting information about. :)

Hi all! I'm not really sure why I joined, other than I saw a few topics that caught my eye...I don't pay too much attention to the news these days, but I love message boards, so maybe this will help me keep up with the latest in crime, anyway. My only real association with LE is through my boyfriend. I'm a student studying Religion and English (about as far away as you can get from CJ, I think, hehehe). Anyway, I'm excited to be here...the boards seem like a pretty cool place.

Thank you for welcoming me to the board. I had written a reply earlier, but then after I typed it all up it said that I wasn't logged in. But I had logged in. I'll try again to write a reply. Glen was found hanging the day after he had been reported missing to the police. The area he was found dead in had been searched just a few hours earlier and he wasn't there. The first police officer or officers to arrive noticed the rope that had been looped twice around his neck wasn't tight enough to kill Glen and they made comments about it like "The rope wasn't tight enough to kill him", and to my father "That rope is not what killed your boy". But when the detectives and investigators took over they ignored everything that had been suspicious about Glen's disappearance and death and decided his death was an "accidental" death. Then the assistant ME ruled his death an accidental death; asphyxiation due to hanging. Even though the first police officer or officers had even said (because they personally saw) that the rope wasn't tight enough to have caused Glen's death. My family and I have always believed Glen was dead before being put under the tree and the rope looped around his neck. We have always believed that someone had had him in the old abandoned house on the lot of land and knew that the rope was there (it had been put up previously by kids to use as a rope swing), and that after Glen died this person used the rope to prop his body up.

Welcome to the boards. Let me start by offering my sincere condolences for the loss of your brother. What an awful thing for your family to have to go through.

I would private message FreshWater and ask him where he thinks you should put your post so that it will receive the most views. I checked the topics and wasn't sure, myself. If you need any help, please let us know.

I will PM Freshwater and ask where I should put my post to that it will receive the most views. I couldn't figure out either where I should put it. I feel like my family and I have been trying to deal with Glen's death for so long that we really could use some new insight and point of views from people outside of the family. And some advice about what we can possibly do.

hey sammie! i'm assuming this is the same sammie from the ctv boards....i just wanted to check out CL-- looks like there are plenty of good topics to choose from....but i don't really understand exactly how this works...? i guess this board is just not near as fast paced as the other board. when i checked out the ANS thread here, the last post was hours ago, and most of the other posts were really old...? if you could give me the inside scoop on how this board is, and how it works, i would appreciate it! but it seems you hardly ever come over here either! (can't find time-- too busy posting on other board, right?)! i'd be better off asking you about this over there, which is what i will do. i just had to check this out tho, because one of the posters over there was commenting on how unruly and outrageous it was over here (not that THAT is what i want-- i was just curious!) but it seems extremely CALM to me.....maybe i just haven't checked out the right threads! well, i'm going to lurk a little bit, and head back the other way. see ya there!

I've been reading things on this site for a year or more (probably more) but I actualy never saw this forum ( I guess that's because I never looked down, I was too fascinated with all these stories), so I decieded to register and here I am!

I can't remember how I got to know this site, by accident or someone told me...I can't remember, but it actualy doesn't matter. I'm really happy to know that this kind of site exists! I always wanted to know so many thing about many crimes, but whenever I tried to look on the interned using google or yahoo, I read only several things about some murderers and murders but never so detailed. I really like the way all stories are presented here in such an interesting and dinamic way. I can also relay to crimelibrary any time I want to read something good and when I need some details. Sometimes I really think that if some detail I wanted to know about wan't mentioned here that that detail doesn't exist or no one knows about it.

Some of you may have noticed a new water on the board. If you haven't let me introduce you to our latest team member - ICEWATER :)

Icewater is focusing on regional news of interest. Trust me when I say icee can comb through endless police reports, press releases, and crime notices to pull out stories of interest in various parts of the country. Icee is a great assest to the CL team and we are all thrilled that yet again, CL gets someone will skills in crime news!!

But as always we can't do it alone. Without our members CL just wouldn't work so Icee and I both ask you all to feel free to post stories all over CL but especially in the regional crime news sections.

The plan is that if a regional story gets traction (ie. Members post, comment, investigate, theorize etc... Then a CL reporter will likely get assigned to do a follow-up. So here is your chance to post your local news or respond to something Icee has found and weigh in on WHAT Cl covers.

I hope everyboday will stop by here and say HI to ICEWATER and make icee feel welcome :seeya:

Is this true? Beautiful One is a moderator?

I've been a member of Court tv message boards since 2004. I've never had anyone on ignore. After reading some of BO's posts I have chosen to put her on ignore.

I was totally disgusted with the things the Ramseys said and implied about the McReynolds. They had them tried and convicted!
If they thought McSanta was so "gay" and distasteful, why on Earth did they keep having him come back? After reading this, doesn't it just shatter your "Christian" image of them? It was just plain nasty. IMO

"Christian" what christian throws their baby on a stage like a prostitute? What christian would be complaining of "oral sex". Yes I read the testimony of the housekeeper, who said Patsy cried to her about John not being satisfied with her oral sex.

I read a lot more than I post and I chose to put BO on ignore because of the way she posts. OK.. A lot to address here...I'll give it a try.. BO is a member like everyone else. It appears she changed here status to admin- it has been corrected and she will be handled if, in fact, she did this...

Crime Library Discussion Forum Roles

Members: The most important group in our community. If you are registered here you are a member.

Forum Leaders: Members can become Forum Leaders by answering a call for leaders. All I ask of FL is a sense of fairness and adherence to the house rules. They must be members in good standing (in terms of infractions) and enjoy a positive reputation in the community at large. When they see something happening on the forum they are a leader in, they try to manage it internally among the members. We have only one forum with leaders /Peterson - and I must say they have done a great job of keeping the forum open and on topic.

Moderators- All moderators are paid by Crime Library and will have a water name. Deep, Ice and Hot have other responsibilities and do not monitor or run the boards although they will post once in a while as members.

Administrators - That's just me, Freshwater, I run the discussion forums for Crime Library. I am charged with creating a dynamic on-line community of crime interested members. I can only hope that's what we are all doing together.

Yes, there are rules that I must adhere to and there are also reviews where I must make my case for my actions etc.. I report directly to the executive editor of Crime Library.

Hope that answers your questions and gets to the some of the background issues.

Thankyou Freshwater, that does clear up a lot of the questions I had.

Here is what BO said in thread when asked about it. Her comment is in red.Quote:

Now as I said I read a lot more than I post and it seems odd that BO would not appear on this thread after her name is mentioned even if I did have her on ignore. But she didn't appear at all. Very unlike BO. So her silence here is almost shocking.

How does one change user ranks? We can not. She has access to things the rest of us don't.

Freshwater can you explain this? Could you also explain how she has a website now listed under her name?

If you don't trust the rest of us with these same controls what makes you trust BO over the rest of us?

Trust works both ways. Either BO should be banned for doing things she shouldn't or someone needs to come clean about those that have access to members personal information and is moderating or "pretending" to moderate this board.

I do not trust BO. If BO or any of her other nics has anything to do with this board I am asking you to go ahead and delete my membership and remove my personal informtaion from BO's access. I had trust in Court tv and the Library and I had trust in MB as Freshwater.

To the best of my knowledge we were never able to choose our member status. I just now went to my profile and it gave me an option of choosing to have member, super member, and probably administrator.

So what is the purpose of having post counts, member status, and a reputation bar? Post count really didn't mean much to me. I just hated to see posts and links lost in the wind. Not just mine- everyones.

If this option has always been in place than I owe BO an apology for coming down so hard on her for this matter. I am the first to admit my mistakes. I am sorry about this mistake.

But I still mean the rest of the things I said in my prior posts.

BO is not an admin. SHe has NO access to any information other than her own. There is (or I should say) was a feature in your usercp that allows you to edit your profile and one of the possible edits was to edit your member status to a costume status - which she did. THIS DOES NOT GRANT HER ACCESS TO ANYONE'S INFORMATION. Please note than in all the time we have been up and running NOONE has violate the rules in this regard and tried to present themselves as someone other than they are....... Enough said!

Sorry for your worries and concerns.

Hello.

My name is Adam Thomas Walsh. I am 26 year old musician/photographer by day and an amateur criminal psychologist by night.

My father was a policeman for over 30 years and growing up I became interested in crime and its reasons, in particular I became interested in murder.

Since 2004 I have corresponded with a significant number of jailed murderers as another part of understanding criminal behaviour and psychology. I have learnt much from these letters.

I would love to do this professionally but am probably not going to.

Great people here. Don't be afraid to ask questions also. At first I did not want members to think I was dumb by asking question ,but one day I just jumped out there and ask and got many great responses.

Hello to all. I feel priveleged to join a board which I have read and used as reference material in my pursuit of truth and justice for several years.
You are a tremendous group of people and I hope you will be patient with a new member while I learn the do's and dont's of CL's netiquette and get my toes wet posting in the forums.

I had so much I wanted to say while I was an interested reader and observer.. now I feel " tongue tied" and a bit shy.

Stop by and say hi. I hope to get to know you!! :)

Thanks.

:seeya: Sincere, we also have a General Discussion forum, sort of like an elite club. Virtual. Anyway, you can talk about anything there. Not just crime.

If you have any worries, concerns, issues, everyone here is willing to give an opinion. In my opinion.

:seeya: Hi Bamafan. Welcome to the very elite world of Crime Library. I know you'll enjoy yourself here, there's plenty to read and lots to talk about.

We also have a Crime Library Members Club, where we can just discuss anything that comes into our collective lil minds. I think 'Corns on big toes' is the discussion someone has started there. So, feel free to unload your deepest secrets and thoughts to the rest of us to discuss or advise on.
