DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. — Authorities have determined that a body found dumped near Daytona Beach is not a victim of the Daytona Beach Serial Killer. "There is no connection," said Holly Hill Detective Sgt. Joe Borelli. With this latest revelation the number of victims of this suspected serial killer drops back down to three and the probe into his identification continues.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Last week a jury in Rochester began hearing testimony against suspected serial killer Robert Spahalski, who has been charged with killing four people in a 15-year span. During opening arguments, District Attorney Kenneth C. Hyland described the day of Nov. 8, 2005, when Spahalski walked into the Rochester Police Department headquarters and confessed to four murders. Following the district attorney's presentation, Spahalski's attorney described his client as a street hustler and drug addict. He said his client had confessed to the murders under duress, which was caused when investigators withheld his HIV medication. The trial is set to resume next week.
LEXINGTON, K.Y. — Last week a judge in Fayette County ordered suspected serial killer Robert Franklin Smallwood, 32, be bound over to a grand jury. Testimony in that case began yesterday, when a Lexington police detective described how Smallwood had confessed to the murder of Erica Butler, who was found dead at her home last spring. Testimony was also given regarding the deaths of Doris Roberts and Sonora Allen. Both women had been strangled and both were connected to Smallwood through DNA evidence. Smallwood has also been charged with the rape of an 83-year-old retired schoolteacher. Testimony is set to resume next week.
