It seems to me that America's democracy works against itself.

Home grown terrorists or external terrorists manipulate America's freedom of speech to preach hatred either underhandedly or overtly. They are robbing you of your freedom of speech. Ironic wouldn't you say!

They go on the defensive by using your very own freedoms. The old saying "the best defense is a good offence" means they win both ways.:cuss:

I'm still mad about the New York Times printing information about the wiretapping and terrorist financing surveillance. I think the New York Times does more damage to anti-terrorist programs than just about anyone in America.

IMO preachers of hate need to be thrown out if they are foreign and living in the U.S. on visas or green cards. If the preachers of hate are American citizens, it's tricky to get them to stop, but I think they earn constant surveillance by the FBI.

What are you suggesting regarding curbs to freedom of speech? Interesting side point: When Woodrow Wilson finally took America into WWI, he made speaking out against the war or doing anything to demoralize the troops a federal offense. Most people don't realize this. How things have changed in today's world where so much more is at stake and the media doesn't have the stomach for ANY fight. Now that we have 24/7 war coverage with the media micromanaging every decision, there is no fight that the U.S. will support after a couple of years.

Thankfully, this was not the case in WWI and WW2 or we would have cut and run.

I agree that any foreigner who speaks hate against the US - no questions asked - should be given the boot period. As far as I'm concerned anyone who does not have the right to vote should not have any rights to speak out against the government either. JMO

As far as speaking out against a war -- I believe the media goes way too far publicizing information about strategies, etc. and should be barred from releasing any information that puts our troops at risk.

However, I don't necessarily believe the public speaking up against a war necessarily demoralizes our troops. You can speak out and be against a war but still be extremely supportive of our troops.

Personally I don't think we should be in Iraq but value each and every life that is over there fighting - but are we fighting in the right venue? It is so hard fighting in a country where you just don't know who the enemy is. Deja vu - Vietnam and we didn't win that war.

My father is a WWII and Korean War Vet but I also believe WWI and WWII were fought for all the right reasons. I just don't feel that way about Iraq and am not sure this war is keeping America any safer. JMHO

Also wanted to say that I am from NY and there are many Dominicans who have joined the US Military and who have died and/or risked their lives for this country. Any immigrant who is allowed to join our military should be automatically made US Citizens. Far too many of them have died and have been given US citizenship posthumously -- how about they be recognized as citizens when they join not when they die and their families be entitled to benefits. JMO

I agree with your assessment that if they join to fight they should be given full citizenship rights and benefits.
On the other hand I think if someone blatantly speaks out against our country as some have calling the country the great Satan we should do them the favor of dropping them off in the country of their choice citizen or no. By blatantly speaking out I do not mean opposition to the war or the politics of the day but instead the supporting of terrorism
