I'm ust curious what other people think about this.... I just found out that lving beyond my backyard, directly across to the next street over from me lives a newly released 2 time sexual offender. I live in florida and looked up the law on how many miles they can live from a school or childcare facility. To my knowledge unless I am wrong, Florida law states they cannot live within 1000ft of a school. I am outraged by this, since I looked up how many miles it is from his residence, to the nearby school and childcare facilities, and found that although to the near elementary school is roughly 4000+ feet, and the nearest childcare is 2000ft, this outrages me.
this guy could litterally walk for 3 minutes and make it to the childcare facility, and 20 minutes to the elementary school. I didn't add that the high school is about 2000ft as well.
I feel the law should be changed on this and there should be an increase of the rule from 1000 ft to 5000ft at least. I cannot believe how this guy could be allowed to live near schools or childcare that is less than a 3 minute walk.
Although, I doubt I can acutally do anything about it, I wonder if this has ever been argued before and if there are any plans to change this rule, since I just read a bill is trying to be passed that will not allow another sexual off/pred. to live with another sexual off/pred. and also something could be said about that, since he is living with his father who was arrested for cocaine para/and use only 5 months prior to his release. He is currently living with his father.
In brief I am really uncomfortable about this guy since I can see his house from my patio, and the house across the street from his, directly located behind me is vacant, and can be easily accessed. I am considering putting up a shade in my ktichen to be permanently closed and something for my patio doors so that no one can be seen inside the house from those angles. I have two beautiful daughters ages 10 1/2 and 13. Thanks for listening.

I feel for you. I truly do. Do not let your guard down. And have that talk with your daughters if you haven't already. I find it an outrage that they can even walk amongst us. You can certainly try to elicit changes in the laws... it's one of our freedoms. Who knows - you might succeed!

Thank you for sympathizing. I know they are all bad, but this guy was only a few points away for being sent away for life! according to the florida law,.. the point are I think 80 or 90, his total crime points = 76 or 86 can't remember,.. on top of the child crimes, he has a wrap sheet as long as my arm!
Can you suggest,.. is it local government, or state gov. or both I should write a letter to?

I would go to the police and tell them your fears. If you're lucky you might find a helpful source who could look up what his offenses were and let you know to what extent they think he is a predator.
Talk to your girls and perhaps even your neighbors.
As far as increasing the distance to 5000 feet - All he would have to do is walk 7 minutes. Look at the men they caught in the TV stings who drove for hours. Distance won't help.

I also think you should contact your government officials & tell them your concern. I believe some places do not let sex offenders live close to bus stops either.
Make sure your house is secure & speak to your daughters AND to your PTA.
And don't forget, the sex offenders you AREN'T aware of are dangerous too... not just the ones who followed the law & registered in your neighborhood. :(

Have you let the other neighbors know about this guy Lora... that's what I'd be doing.

not sure, but I think it depends if they are a "2 time (adult) sexual offender" or a "2 time (child) sexual offender"

I'd write to both. And with the elections coming up in Nov, I'd write to Jeb Bush also. Maybe Republicans across the country will want to make this a campaign issue.

I agree with you, they should get lwop.... but that being said, if they don't and they do their time, they have paid their debt to society, I wish we did not have a list, I wish lwop was the sentence too, but it's not - jmho
and if you are sure it was a child involved in his crimes, I would call the police and ask about it, though they should already know, don't they look at their own lists?

This is a good point, too. It actually is somewhat encouraging that this person is registering as he is supposed to be... many don't. ((Not a reason to let your guard down or anything, but slightly encouraging.))

ok, that last post got me thinking, why can't the computers reject anyone from registering where they are not suppose to be living? seems that would be easy enough to set up? - jmho

Dang....even the good looking business men are losers.

Thanks to everyone who posted your support. I just got off the phone with both local sheriff and fdle. I voiced my concerns and they told me to contact his probation officer to find out what his specific guidlines are. I have to wait till Friday when the probation officer will be in.
Also, I might add that he is not locatable through the FDLE web site search by name, town, county, but I was able to find him by sifting through the pages on a zip code search only. Something can be said about that too! Even when I called the FDLE "they" asked me for his birth date, or ID number, since he couldn't find him either.
I will be writing to Jeb Bush about this believe me!

I would also contact your neighbors and ask them to join your voice--politicians listen to people who organize!
I can't believe it. I am so sorry. I think we need an island to drop them all on and isolate them from society.
Pedophiles do NOT get cured. Adult sex offenders are just about as tough to rehabilitate. We need to stop tiptoeing around this issue admit the facts, and take action accordingly.

How did you find out? Did you receive the postcard notification in the mail? That is the method they use here in TX, but I am not sure it is the same in other states.
Once you find out his specifics you will be better able to ascertain whether he is more likely or less likely to target children. If you can find out from his probation officer what the relationship was to his victim, that should help also. Example - he could have been convicted for a crime against a girlfriend. Or...he could have been a rapist who breaks into a stranger's home. In the former case, I do not think the threat to the community as a whole is nearly as high as in the latter situation.
See what I mean?

I wouldn't do that because it's NOT such a good idea to draw attention to yourself and make yourself a potential target.
I also want to point out, it's good to remember that all registered sex offenders are NOT pedophiles.
It's not just the children who have to be careful.

My teenager left school on her lunch break (she wasn't supposed to) and was followed down the street by a stranger. The perp thought she was going into a particular fast-food restuarant, lparked his car, got out and went in. My teen kept walking to the restuarant next-door. Lo and behold the perp left the the restuarant he had initially gone into and walked next door. My teen was very uncomfortable. He tried talking to my teen and my teen said one sentence to him. When my teen's friend showed up my teen told the friend about it and suggested they called the police. Trned out that my teens friend was a child of a police officer. Cops were called-showed up-the perp hastily tried to make an exit. My teen and her friend were interviewed on the scene and went back to school. I did not know this had happened. A week later I had a call on my home answering machine from a 'child-abuse' detective. I could not understand why. Turns out the perp who had followed my teen was an UNREGISTERED SEX OFFENDER. The police were very concerned. We have to be our child's watchdog. ANd speaking of watchdog-'Family Watchdog' has a website where you can track sex offenders. Also check your state's DPS and local police department online. Stay on top of it always.
BTW my teen told me that the alarms went off upon seeing the perp follow. Keep talking to your teen ad nauseum. It does stick.

Many police departments will help you facilitate a community policing meeting, which can be a great way to meet with your neighbors and local police officers to stay on top of the issues that affect your neighborhood. It would be a good forum for you to get the word out about this guy. If regular meetings aren't already held in your neighborhood, you might want to talk to the PD about setting something up.

The Sex Offender Registry is so screwed up you don't know who to watch for. People that have simply viewed pornography can be on that registry. Makes it too complicated to figure out who the really bad guys are. They should make things less complicated.

not everyone in the registry is even guilty of a sex crime, I agree with you, that has made it pretty useless - jmho

Thank you. And what about the 1000's of Priests that are actually guilty and are not on there because the Catholic Church has protected them, and "bought off" the victims"? Talk about people in positions of power that use it to avoid court, jail, etc. This is the really sad part. I saw where in Wisconsin they just paid 10 victims $16 million, and these guys will never see any jail time.
