Unless someone can prove it, I do not believe that the FBI is involved in this missing persons case. Please check for ANY verification or link supporting this claim of false hope that's spread the past couple of days. The only mention of FBI in print has come from a news article where Dr. Grover Maurice Godwin said he was going to report the phone call he supposedly got to the FBI. In other media, he only said he was reporting it to the North Carolina state bureau of investigation and the locals in Georgia. One media source said the GBI hadn't been made aware of the supposed threat either. The FBI has maintained that there must be evidence of CRIMINAL ACTIVITY across state lines to get involved in Tara's missing persons case. An alleged phone call conveying a death threat to Dr. Godwin does not suffice. The FBI will also assist when the GBI requests them to do so; in this case, the GBI has not (and will not, I believe) ever do that. If the FBI were officially involved, we would KNOW IT by proof other than a couple of people on this site saying it. Mrs. Gattis and others have strongly lobbied federal officials for their help, and if it was forthcoming or actively being provided, we would KNOW it loudly and proudly.

I don't know anything about the FBI being involved in Tara's case. As I understand it, the phone threat to Dr. Godwin was reported to his local FBI office, and the GBI is investigating the threat. I don't know about FBI involvement in this case either. But if one wants them involved, one would have to "trip their trigger". Makes me want to go "hmmmmm" about the alleged threat. JMOO

IMO The FBI should be involved specially one claims that they saw Tara at Alabama which is outside boundary of GBI

The FBI is an elite group of men and women. If/when they are involved in an investigation I feel it would be in a secretive mode of operation. Again, IMO, an undercover agent could be:

1) new sub or teacher at school

2) a teller at the bank

3) the waitress at a local diner

4) the guy pumping gas at a local service station

5) new employee at the phone/cable company

My sources say they have been involved since 3/24 but, of course, who knows....could be a hoax.....but I really don't think so......JMHO

I agree 100% with you Sassy. IMHO it has been a little over a week since the FBI became involved and thank goodness that they are here....wherever they may be.

I do not think the FBI is involved. The GBI would send in an undercover person like they did in the Sueann Ray case.

The FBI is involved. They rarely work in the spotlight because they must be thorough.

I guess you are right. Sorry for being so dumb.

As stated previously, there is absolutely no proof the FBI is involved, and further speculation and "talk" by the few who claim to know it all only adds to the heap of speculation and talk in this case--which is a mile high and gets us nowhere. We need facts, not opinions and speculation that create false hope. In my opinion, if you can't back up a statement as strong and important as "The FBI is involved," why make the claim other than to draw attention to yourself?

Someone mentioned that the FBI doesn't call for an appointment they just show up. I can verify that. I have had two experiences with the FBI some years ago.

Once, when the hunt for the murders and missing children in the Atlanta area was going on.No one realized the FBI was involved but they were. They had received a tip about someone that worked for our company. Since I was in personnel and they wanted info on the QT they approached me. Of course I asked for their ID's before I talked about confidential info. They just showed up one afternoon.

Second, when Jimmy Carter was elected president but before he took office, they were background checking on one of his appointees and showed up at my house. My kids had the flu but they were not worried about catching it. Again, they just appeared.

In both instances they already knew my name and where I was when they wanted to talk with me. The fact that they showed up at my house on a normal work day for me (only home cuz kids were sick) tells me they did a little leg work.

I don't know if the F.B.I is involved or not but i think the more agencies involved the better.

Which is worse for the perpetrator, if the worst occurred - FED OR STATE of GA COURT?

Are there federal charges that could make for strifer penalties (possible death penalty), a court route with fewer GOOD OL BOYS, or ...

Aside from being more experienced at investigation missing persons, and providing a conflict free investigation, are there other reasons for them to be involved??

In MOO because justice will be evident in the higher courts. I look for this to set a precedent and send a message to many folks and the messages would never be sent if it was left to the local court system to bring justice. If Tara's family has had to endure "road-blocks" by the very people who are supposed to be protecting communities and upholding the law then one can only imagine what would be the outcome if the "good old boys" got to handle this one. Thank you God, for the FBI.

:rose: Always for Tara MOO - Alrighty then! No body ... no crime ... but, no problem for the F-B-I!

Glad to hear that - the FBI watches over the GBI ... which watches over the Irwin County Sheriff's Office ... which watches over the Ocilla Police Department ... which protects the good citizens of Ocilla, Georgia, USA. No wonder I have a warm feeling tonight. Or could it be the wine?

FBI will not get involved unless it is proven that this missing person has crossed Georgia's state line.

I believe that is incorrect. As I stated in my above post the FBI visited me at my office on a tip about an employee. This was during the ongoing investigation of the missing and murdered children in Atlanta. Wayne Williams was later convicted. At the
time we thought only Atlanta PD and GBI was investigating but the FBI agents showed me their badges/ID. Also, all the bodies were in Georgia.

I don't know how or why one case differs from another or what the exact criteria for involvement is but I do know it can happen.
