While I was typing this there was an update, her family was in a car wreck in Alabama, her kids are OK, doesn't know yet about her husband...

I just checked and there doesn't seem to be any more news right now, but I am going to be following this one. I'll post when I hear anything.
It sounds like he left on his own and was probably heading out to Texas to his family, but did HE shoot the family dog and why would he do that? Why didn't he just take him too? Those poor little kids!

Thanks!
Our husky will get between my husband and the grandkids when hubby is playing with them and the kids are yelling. I have no doubt Meko would get violent, even with hubby, if he thought the kids were in danger. I wonder if this is why the dog was shot? Maybe the kids did not want to go.....yelling and pulling to get away, and the dog tried to protect them. Therefore the only way to force the kids out was to kill the dog? Or we may find a history of violence in the home?
Interesting case either way!

That's an idea, I hadn't thought about it that way. I sort of thought that maybe he was mad and took it out on the dog, but your scenario makes more sense.

How horrible!
That scenario does seem possible to me too.

There's a little more info, although it seems like this man 'lost it' and just flipped, according to this article it says that he may not face any charges for what he did. He was in jail yesterday and I heard on the radio that he is supposed to be bonded out by his family in Texas and taken back with them for mental evaluation and treatment.
I read where he is/was an employee of Delta airline and I'm just guessing that maybe he was one of the many who lost their jobs recently when the airline filed bankruptcy. That may have been one thing that sent him over the edge.
Funny thing is that I haven't read anywhere if they know he shot the dog or not, but this article states that they won't do a necropsy on it now. I am assuming that they know he did it, although he claims he doesn't remember anything that happened.
So many unanswered questions.

Another one who can't remember. . .
I hope they can find help for him, and that the children can get through this without too many sad memories.
