Hello,
I have started a campaign to recruit interested persons to take steps to enact legislation in the state in which they live. This effort is called Campaign for the Missing 2006. As we are close to this cause personally, I want to ask you to consider being a part of this drive.
What is Campaign for the Missing 2006?
Campaign for the Missing 2006 is a grassroots effort to pass legislation in each state that will serve to improve the law enforcement community's ability to locate and ensure a safe return of missing persons. It will address the national problems of missing persons and the identification of human remains and provide the framework for improving law enforcement's response. It will also improve the collection of critical information about missing persons, prioritize high-risk missing persons cases, and ensure prompt dissemination of critical information to other law enforcement agencies and the public that can improve the likelihood of a safe return.
The Department of Justice, working with Federal, State, and local law enforcement; coroners and medical examiners; victim advocates; forensic scientists; key policymakers; and family members who have lived through this tragic experience, developed the model to be presented in each state’s legislature.
What do I need to do?
The campaign seeks persons in each state who are willing to write to their own district’s elected official to ask for sponsorship.
These are some of the initial steps involved:
1) If you are interested in helping make a difference in the lives of thousands of missing persons and their families, send an email to campaign2006@projectjason.org Give us your name and the state in which you live.
2) Look up the name and contact information for your state senator. This is the official who works with state law rather than federal. You may look up your representative here http://www.ncsl.org/public/leglinks.cfm
3) Send either via email or US mail the prepared letter you will find included on the blog (in the link below) to that representative. You are asking them to sponsor this bill and to present it to the senate.
4) If you get a negative response, write to other senators until sponsorship is obtained. (My hope is that there will be more than one person in each state working on this, so that no one person is working on it.)
Please read the following for additional information: http://voice4themissing.blogspot.com/2005/12/121305-campaign-for-missing-2006.html
This link also provides detailed information about the model legislation.
Please consider joining us in this effort. Thank you.

As many of you are already aware, Sharon Rocha has donated all her profits from FOR LACI to help for search and recovery of missing loved ones. This special search and recovery fund in conjunction with the Carol Sund/Carrington Foundation is available to those who apply and qualify. Thought I might post this for anyone who might need this as a resource.

The Laci and Conner Search and Rescue Fund was founded by Sharon Rocha, in December 2005 in memory of her daughter, Laci Rocha Peterson , and her grandson, Conner Peterson. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance to law enforcement agencies and non-profit organizations involved in search and rescue. These agencies are encouraged to apply for financial assistance for training, equipment, search and rescue animals or any item that can help improve their search and rescue efforts. Our hope is that through providing this additional assistance, these agencies will be better equipped for search and rescue, and therefore be more successful in their efforts to safely return missing persons to their loved ones.
If you are a member of a law enforcement agency or a non-profit whose purpose is search and rescue, please download the Cover Letter and Request Form and complete your application. You may submit your application via e-mail, fax (209) 567-1338, or mail it to the address above. If you have any questions, please contact us at

Are you looking for a family member who has gone missing without explanation in Canada? If you are, there are websites that can help by letting others know about your missing loved one.
Whether your family member disappeared recently or decades ago, we can create a publicly accessible case file that is included on The Doe Network (http://www.doenetwork.us/) or the North American Missing Persons Network (http://www.doenetwork.us/nampn/) (NAMPN) websites. Both sites feature profiles of those who have disappeared without explanation or under suspicious circumstances. This service is free. You will not be asked to pay to have your loved one's information added to the websites.
Please note that neither The Doe Network nor NAMPN accept cases involving searches for lost loves, birth parents or old friends.
If your loved one went missing in Canada and you would like to have his/her case added to The Doe Network or to the NAMPN websites, please contact lusia.doenetwork@gmail.com.

Today marks the start of the Project Jason Voice for the Missing blog series entitled "Psychics and Missing People". You will find the link in my signature.
There is not one proven case in which a psychic, using special powers or abilities not given to the typical person, has located a missing person, whether dead or alive. It may be possible that some persons have an ability that defies science and logic, but there is no known scientific evidence of this. These persons re-victimize families by taking away hope where it should stand, and giving hope where there is none. No person has the right to do this to another.
The goal of this series is to is to demonstrate to families of the missing the methods used by these persons. Understanding what goes on behind the scenes should decrease any guilt feelings for not accepting offers of "help" from these persons, whether it is fee-based or not. We want to lessen the pain already present in our every breath, and arm families with the information to defend themselves against these persons.
In reading the series you will discover how psychics do an excellent job of convincing you that their guesses derive from special powers or the aid of other worldly spirits. You will learn the methods they use and be able to spot those upon observance. If you believe in the claims of psychics, but are open to logic and science, you will not feel the same about them after this series.
Please note that the mission statement of Project Jason includes assistance for families of the missing. We do not exist to prove or disprove paranormal claims. The blog will provide a link where you may go to discuss your viewpoint if you wish. We are unable to discuss this with you, as that detracts from the time we need to spend helping the families of the missing.
Thank you.

THERE IS A NEW STAMP helping to get the word out about AMBER.
Also within the site there itwo very important tables- one showing who in each state is coordinator and one showing where media and various LE can go this year for training.
Here are the links to those pages.
http://www.ncmec.org/en_US/documents/AMBERContacts.pdf
http://www.amber-net.org/
Take a look - make a few calls. See what your state and local people are doing.
There is even specific info generated about the MEDIA.
Call or write the editors, the producers of the various sources you use to get your news. Even YAHOO and GOOGLE and MSN.
This is a great time for the Media to run stories about the STAMP and include any missing children - there are so many creative ways to keep the cases before the public and by so doing, help to increase the success stories. And with CART, it should open the door wider for Media to step in whether an Amber Alert is issued or not! Let's keep the ball rolling in the right direction!
This is the time for the groundswell of people who are want to help make a difference.

Dear Kelly;
If I recall correctly, you were one of the signers of our proposed "Molly's Law" a while back... and I thank you SO MUCH for that support!! I also support YOUR great cause, and that of all others who work so diligently to help families of lost, missing and abducted children and adults... and try to find or recover the victims and bring the perpetrators of those crimes to justice!!
I have posted information on our proposed "Molly's Law" on the Open Court forum (as well as cross-posted to 3 others, by permission), and invite anyone concerned about this important issue to read what we are trying to do (in our own way) to find missing children and adults! We are not a formed organization, as you are, but we hope to sometime become affiliated with one that can guide and assist us in our efforts. If I can do anything to help you, or we can work together, please keep me in mind! Our hearts go out to ALL who have lost a loved one, and we must be a strong, united front to fight this problem... and from many different ways!! Thank you (and others in this cause) for all your tireless efforts!! :rose:
Sincerely,
"Rummy" (a.k.a. Joyce Phares)

Hello,
Whether you have someone missing in your life or not, and if you do, whether or not that person is young or old, we must ask for your help in a matter that is critical for families of missing adults.
For those of us in this specific situation, we've been the recipient of support and assistance from the National Center for Missing Adults. Now they need our help to in order to be able to continue their good work.
It will only take you a few minutes to read this, which will explain the situation and what we ask of you:
http://voice4themissing.blogspot.com/2006/07/71006-matter-of-urgency.html
In those few minutes, several persons in this country will disappear. It could be your neighbor down the street. It might be your cousin or your grandson. It might not be anyone you know at all.
But what if it was?
Thank you.

I just don't understand the priorities (and gall, for not reimbursing) of those in government sometimes.
Thanks for bringing this to us, Kelly, I had no idea this was happening. I also didn't realize that online petitions are ineffective. My letters are in the outbox and I sent an email to my list. Hopefully it will get forwarded further.

I don't understand it either. How could they have promised to reimburse for the Katrina output and now they try to sweep it under the carpet? Where do they think the money comes from? Like I say in the blog, people do not think of orgs like ours as a standard in charitable giving orgs.
When it comes to passing laws, those online petitions are meaningless. Recently, there is one going around for a Worldwide Missing Person's Day. A piece of paper is not going to create a special day in various countries. While I can't claim I know their political process, I seriously doubt it means anything.
They MIGHT have merit if you're using it for some other purpose, but law passing, no.
Many blessings,
Kelly

Thanks to the wonderful activists!
Hello,
If you haven't yet helped with our "Save the NCMA" campaign, I again ask you to take just a few minutes to help. (US based-readers only)
http://voice4themissing.blogspot.com/2006/07/71006-matter-of-urgency.html
Last night I received an email from an NCMA employee, and it is not looking good. They are down to 2 case managers and only a handful of other neccesary employees. 2 case managers to handle the thousands of cases they have is certainly far from adequate, but they've had to cut to the bone. They are and have been working on several fronts to keep from closing, but nothing has come to fruition yet.
Please don't just read this and think to yourself what a sad situation it is.......take a few minutes to read the letter and act!
A link is provided at the bottom of the blog entry where you can find out who is your US Senator. If he/she has an email address, which most do, take my letter and edit out the sections which apply to me, and send it. Let's also send one to the White House. A link is provided for that as well.
Some helpers have been linking it on blogs, websites, and other forums. They've also been emailing it to their list. Please continue to do this.
Losing the NCMA has far reaching ramifications. Where will the 45,000+ families of missing adults go for assistance? The smaller orgs can't handle that volume. It will be devastating.
It should only take you 5 minutes to do this. I don't think 5 minutes is too much to ask of you for something that means so much and has such a wide ranging impact on the families.
Thank you for listening, and thank you to those of you who have already taken action.
Honoring Jason on this day, 5 years and one month since he disappeared.

An update on our NCMA campaign (http://while-here.blogspot.com/2006/07/little-good-news.html)
We're still not out of the woods for them. In essence, this is a small bandaid used to cover a large wound. We still need to keep pounding away to get the proper reimbursements and the funding from HR 2103.
I thank those who have helped with this, even though it may not neccesarily be your cause, or your specific cause. The thing that many don't realize though, is that it could become your cause. No one is immune.
