I found this interesting so I thought I would share it.

Apparently there were rumours that Karla was living in a certain area, Chateauguay which upset some residents who contacted authorities to see if it was true.

Also, Karla had expressed an interest in living in NDG but residents there protested the possibility of her living there.

It would appear, by their concern and protests, that these residents weren't contacted to participate in the recent poll of Quebecers that found them to be more lenient toward Karla and accepting that she had served her sentence. Also, 50% of those polled said they would accept Karla living in their neighborhood.

Would you want her near you???

How does it follow from the concern of "some worried residents" in Chateauguay that none of those residents were polled, or that your larger "not in my neighbourhood" implication applies? Wouldn't you need to know that a statistically significant number of residents exceeding the poll numbers of 50% objected to her potential presence in Chateauguay? The article, and your post, simply says "some residents". It may be the case, but there is no indication of it from the information you cite.

I don't know that a formal poll was ever taken of NDG residents specifically either, so unless we have that information it would again be difficult to conclude anything. Also, because the NDG furor seemed to have peaked before her release, before decisions were made surrounding her release conditions, and before her televised interview we can't know for sure how any of those factors might or might not have affected NDG residents.

Absolutely NOT, been there done that and have the horrible feelings of living in the same area as Karla and Paul.

She doesn't even have to register as a "sex offender" since she plead guilty to manslaughter!

In college my former roommate died in a terrible car accident with a boyfriend who was drinking. Many many years later when I was riding on a local train a very upset looking woman was staring at me and shaking. It took me a few minutes to recognize her as my roommate's mom and when I did nod at her she started to howl. It was too horrible. My presence reminded of her d's tragic demise. I knew there was nothing I could say to her so I got off at the next stop.

Imagine a parent or family member seeing Homolka on the street or in the bakery, etc. YIKES. This is not a good idea.

The reality is, she has been released and she has to live somewhere. She has chosen that somewhere to be the province of Quebec, and she must give 96 hours notice if she intends to leave Quebec to visit Ontario, where the victims' families reside. I don't know what more the system can do to respect and protect those families considering that Homolka has served the sentence she was given.

I agree with you. Reality is what we have to accept. Fortunately, Canada is a big place. My husband and I rode the train from one side to the other for our 25th, it is a beautiful country and the people were the best.

That is really neat. I have always wanted to take the train from coast to coast. I will someday, when the nest empty. Glad you enjoyed your trip!
