Does anyone know when the Black Dahlia movie is coming out? I know they began filming with Scarlett Johannsen in April. I think it also stars Josh Hartnett and Hilary Swank??

Supposedly 2006. Based on Jame Ellroy's novel "The Black Dahlia"

Ellroy is a very gifted noir writer whose own mother was murdered in the 1940's under mysterious circumstances. He wrote My Dark Places about his attempt to solve his mother's case.

Here's a little info.

The Black Dahlia (2006) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387877/)

Hilary Swank is set to join The Black Dahlia an adaptation of the James Ellroy novel for director Brian De Palma. Swank joins Josh Hartnett and Scarlett Johansson in the drama.

In the film, two boxers-turned-cops investigate the brutal murder of Elizabeth Short, a crime that rocked 1940s Los Angeles. Swank's character is a dead ringer for the victim who became known as the Black Dahlia and proves a dangerous seductress to the cops.

Shooting is scheduled to begin April 4th in Bulgaria with a budget over $30 million.

Mia Kirshner plays Short, not Swank.

:read: Recommended.

There is a movie poster for release in May of 2006 in France. I would tend to believe the US would show this move before France as most movies are released her before Europe.

Ellroy's Mother was murdered in 1958.

Just to know that someone like the person that killed Beth Short
lived out their life just as anyone else and most likely had a family. Kept killing others and got away with it is what makes this such a scary story. Just think it could have been anyone of our Grand fathers.

Well, I finally gave in and bought the "Black Dahlia" DVD a few days ago. Sat down and watched it, since this is a case that has always fascinated me.

I should say-I tried to watch it. I have to confess I fell asleep not once but twice during the movie!! :o

Partly that may have been due to lack of sleep.

Then again, I am utterly uninterested in boxing--in fact that's putting it mildly, I can't stand to watch two men trying to whack the stuffing out of each other!!

Plus I didn't care for all the "extraneous" characters--like the wannabe Dahlia played by Hilary Swank. Or for Johanssen's (sp?) character either. I guess I'm just not into film noir, which is what this was.

Maybe I was looking for a documentary instead of a moody period piece??

Anyway, I was extremely disappointed in the movie (maybe staying awake thru the whole thing might have helped lol!)

I'm wondering what others thought of the movie? :)

For months I raved that I wanted to see this movie so much so that my son purchased it for me on DVD because I seldom go to the movies.

Well I just felt awful. The movie wasn't good at all and I knew my son had wasted his time and money which made me feel bad that I had even mentioned wanting to see it.

I told him it was "Okay" but he got my drift it wasn't something to brag about.

Oh Wow! That's exactly how I was. I was sooo excited that they had made the movie. I can't remember what was going on that I never made it to the theater....kept putting it off or something....and then it was gone. Came out on video and I rushed to go rent it. I kept watching and watching....thinking it HAD to get better.....then I kept watching hoping it would just make sense!!!

Was really disappointed with the whole thing. Best I could say was that from a cinematography aspect....it was shot nicely.

Thank you, Jaded and Sadie!

I was beginning to wonder if it was just me--and my deplorable lack of taste in movies!!

Thanks for restoring my faith in myself lol! :)
