The problem w/having a gun and using it is the way the laws work w/using a gun in self defense, etc. It's very easy to get convicted for using a gun w/in your home...

What level SO is she, 3? 4? There are different levels, and only a 3 or 4 you should be worried about. I don't know what state you live in, but in most states they only list the names of level 3 or 4 offenders.

I just checked Citrus County, and there are 29 offenders located in Homosassa. That seems like a lot to me, but I do not know how big the town is.
Look under the "C's" and Couey is there.

if I knew anyone who advocating vigilatism by going after these pedophiles, I wont say anything and will support their reasons completely. children are prey to pedophiles, now we need turn the table for pedophiles to be prey. Putting them out of misery is best option so they would not have the opportunity to hurt children again. Couey is the lastest example.

anyone who commits such an act would be prosecuted for murder... if it's worth it to them to be labeled as a murderer, then let them go ahead, I guess... but IMO it is better to try to get legislative action, it would be a MUCH longer lasting effect, and save more children.
My husband picked me up from work tonight. We pulled into our driveway when the announcement was made that Couey had confessed. I stood in front of my home, holding my daughter close to me as I cried for little Jessie and her family.
Periodically I will visit www.FDLE.com to look for the sexual predators that live within my community. I live in a rural area outside of Tampa where there are more than our fair share of the sexual predators (not that they should have the right to live within our communities).
Though I love her and watch her show every evening, I was actually offended that Nancy Grace made mention that the people in the area wouldn't have known to check the web for predators because they lived in trailer parks and wouldn't have access to a computer. Ms. Grace, you would be surprised! I actually recall from the beginning of this ordeal that Mark Lunsford had mentioned that he knew there were approximately 17 sexual predators in the area. The problem here wasn't that they did or did not have a computer, it was that Couey did not disclose his new location to law enforcement.
There should be a law called Jessie's Law: all convicted sex offenders should have to wear homing devices or be microchipped for easy location. Any convicted sex offender caught living in close proximity to a child without registering with law enforcement should then be sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.
God bless Jessie Lunsford and her family! :patriot:

I would rather risk a manslaughter conviction for using a gun in self-defense than letting the ******* get thru me and to my kid.
I dont care if I shoot him inside our outside as he is running away. If he was outside and trying to run away, I woudl shoot him anyways. There is no fixing people like that and he would certainly try it with someone else's child.
I have checked the registered sex offender website at least once a month for years. I have always wanted to know who lives in my neighborhood and near my children and home.
I checked again tonight when I read this thread. I found that there is a sex offender living within a block of my childrens' school. Not only is this jerk a sex offender but it is a "child sex offender". I thought they couldn't live within so many miles of a school? Am I wrong on this?
To make it worse.. I'm sure that the school has no idea.

Not miles - only 1,000 feet which basically means they can't live on the parameter of the school grounds.

That seems crazy. Why let them live so close to where so many children are? That's nuts!

could be right that the school does not know, one level 3 (we have several) was found to be living one block from a grade school, police had never notified the school, when the school found out they sent a flyer to every parent, the police said they didn't know he lived that close, i thought everyone in the neighborhood where a level 3 lives had to be notified, i guess they could live next door and you wouldn't know.

Just two days ago in my local paper there was an alert about a level 3 who has moved into the small community where my two young grandsons live. If I know that community, they will make it too uncomfortable for him to stay there.

That is not enough of a distance. Not nearly enough.
In my city, there is a registered "Predator" that lives within the legal distance from an Elementary school. It's still right down the road!!!

I don't see a way to detect what level the offenders in my state are. There are some labled "offender" and some labled "predator". Anyone know what the difference is? Also, anyone in Florida know how to detect the level of the offenders in our state?
What are the different levels and what do they indicate? A level 3 I'm guessing is pretty bad right? (As if you could be a "good" sex offender  )
Thanks in advance for any answers.
We must all work to protect our children.... the system it seems is not working for them.

Yeah. Better to let some pervert rape, sodomize and kill your kids after they kidnap them from their beds at night.
You sure don't want to get in trouble for defending your own life or your children's, after all.
GET REAL !!
There is something that parents can do RIGHT NOW! I did it last night.
I went and got the names and locations of sex offenders in MY area. I know now who they are and what they look like.
ANYONE can do this. Here is the link from Klaas's site to access each state.
Go, find out who they are and what they look like.
At least this can be done NOW!

Something else can be done, work to get the laws strengthened to KEEP THEM LOCKED UP.
Registration and/or monitoring does NOTHING to prevent the crime, it only helps LE find them after, or gives them a list of suspects.

Hopefully, there will be a campaign to clean up Homosassa. I've never been there, and I'm sure good folks do live there, but from what we've learned, Homosassa also has its share of undesireables.
At his a.m. news conference Dowdy was asked about the high number of sex offenders living in Homosassa. His reply was that he had no control over who lived there. He also mentioned that the 3 individuals who may have obstructed justice were druggies and that he may never get all the facts from Couey because he was also into drugs.
When Jessica was first missing, there was a poster from Homosassa who stated that Homosassa was a good place to hide out. No town should become another Clay County, MO, like the the place that protected Jesse James.
I agree that no one can be run out of town, but how about the town passing ordinances to "encourage" certain people to leave? For the slightest infraction Dowdy and other good citizens might want to throw the book at any and all of the undesireables that live in Homosassa.

Thank you for the link! Does anyone know what crimes agianst nature means?
I don't have any children but I still don't feel safe knowing all the children that live in my immediate area. We're in a heavily hispanic district and many of my neighbors have 3 or 4 children. I wonder if they check these things or even see them as threats. I went to my states site and enterred my city and zip code and 103 people came up. It's disgusting. This kind of stuff really inspires me to vigilante justice. I suppose it wouldn't be understood since I don't have children. But, as someone who was molested as a child, I feel as vested in getting these scumbags off the street or in pine boxes.

Most of the people on here are beside themselves with grief, rage and helplessness! Fear is a powerful motivator!
In my state (Wisconsin) you enter your zip code. It gives you a list of sex offenders and their offenses, but I cannot find anywhere where it gives a specific address. There are so many that Im assuming there must be at least one living in my neighborhood but no way to know WHERE? WHICH HOUSE? It seems like many of the rest of you have been able to get exact locations. I wonder why WI wont release the offenders addresses. Could this mean they do not have to report their exact address? Hmmm...

Good for you! Buy yourself a gun that kills, not just maim. I am 5'1"weigh about 105 lbs. Girl if that makes a difference. I love my 45 Glock. Although a big *** 357 revolver is sweet as well. Take classes, learn how to handle the weapon in various situations including, very low light.
I think it is time we put the freaks on notice. You harm a child....I don't think I am allowed to say what I would like to do to these monsters.

Although I personally have no problem w/women buying guns for protection, I do urge everyone to take classes to not only learn to handle the gun as lab_geek stated, but the laws surrounding use of a gun in all situations. Laws are not cut and dry and as I have learned, defending yourself can acutally lead to charges against you! So know the laws in your state and remember, guns for protection don't always help you, they can be used against you, so you can't be afraid to use it. Be educated!

Only 19, your lucky, there are 13 in my town alone, plus another 20+ in the towns next to me. And those are only the ones actually registered. Not all sex offenders are required to register, it's up to the sentencing.

If you read my later post you'll see that I say, I have nothing against buying a gun for protection, but educate yourself in the laws, and the gun, be careful and prepared, guns aren't always protectors, in many situations, someone using a gun to protect themselves ends up w/it being used against them.

Yes, I read your other post. Good advice. I know guns are dangerous. I respect them accordingly.

This is a good resource too:

I used one of the sites they suggest to do not only a sex offender search of my zip code (which was disturbing!), but also a criminal records check on a few of my neighbors. I had to pay for each criminal check, but it was pretty cheap and totally worth it as far as I'm concerned.
